Found in the southernmost part of Tuscany, The Maremma was once considerated an impenetrable and dangerous place due to the presence of brigrands and frequent malaria epidemics. Today however,Maremma has become a wonderful and relaxing place, where families can spend an unforgettable holiday, even if the area remains a little wild.
The Maremma is sparsely populated, and its many open and lush territories help to transform the area into one stunning natural park. The Maremma offers a variety of places in which you can spend your holiday, ranging from seaside accommodation to places amongst the mountains and hills.
Once upon the time Maremma was isolated from the rest of the world, cut off by extensive marshlands and menacing highwaymen, but now it is an ideal holiday destination.
In fact, Maremma offers its guests the perfect setting to relax and enjoy the wonderful landscapes and delicious local food.
Such local specialties include the exquisite aquacotta- a soup made of tomatoes, eggs, roasted bread and a variety of seasonal vegetables including onions. A flavoursome provincial cheese called “pecorino”, pigskin meat and finally, the well renowned wine “Morellino di Scansano” - made exclusively in the provence of Maremma.
