Castiglione della Pescaia
Castiglione della Pescaia lies between blue sea and green hills. This well known seaside resort is fittingly popular for its beautiful beaches and thick pine forests, that stretch to the Marina di Grosseto.
For years it has held the record for the greatest number of visitors in the Maremma, thanks to its countless number of high quality accomodations and port facilites, as well as its remarkable beauty. Tourist can easily find everything they desire here; from aquatic activities, such as sailing and windsurfing, to secluded and tranquil beaches, perfect for contemplating nature far from the lively and popular seaside establishments.
The walled Medieval town, complete with towers; gates and a 15th castle, is situated on an outcropping of Monte Petriccio. The natural reserve of Diaccia Botrona, with its rare ecosystem, was originally an Etruscan lake.
Pescaia takes its name from its origins as an ancient fishing village. Today, boats of all types dock in the picturesque port and every evening fishing dingies still return with their wriggling catch. The unpolluted sea and the long beaches of white sand, stretch to the very edges of the magnificent pine forest.
Here the vast expanse of surrounding vegetation offers refuge to a broad and spectacular bird colony and a diverse range of flora. Within the area it is possible to walk, bike or drive along paved roads and pathways which penerate the beautiful landscape.
